Dr Farai Dube

Dr Farai Dube has been in practice since 2002. He is a cardiologist and specialist physician. He served as a cardiology fellow and junior consultant at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in the cardiology division. Dr Dube is also a part registrar on the University of the Witwatersrand registrar circuit. He is also provides clinical, diagnostic and interventional cardiology care through Sandton Heart Inc. His interests include echocardiography, cardiac catheterization, device implantation and preventative cardiology.
He is married to Portia, an investment banker, and they have three children. They live in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Aortic surgery
If an aneurysm develops, i.e. if part of the aorta enlarges and balloons out, the aorta is at risk of rupturing. Stents or prostheses can be used to prevent this from occurring.
Bypass surgery
During bypass surgery, vessel grafts are used to bypass narrowed sections in the coronary arteries. This ensures that sufficient amounts of oxygen and blood can reach the heart.
Carotid artery surgery
In a patient presenting with severe stenosis of a carotid artery, carotid stenting can reduce the patient's risk of stroke.
Vascular surgery
Vascular surgery can treat conditions such as atherosclerosis and general weakening of the artery walls, thus preventing a reduction in the flow of blood through the arteries.
Heart valve surgery
Heart valve surgery may involve a whole variety of catheter-based and open heart surgery procedures, all of which are aimed at re-establishing normal heart valve function.
Pericardiocentesis
During this procedure, fluid is removed from the pericardium via a needle inserted through the skin, thus preventing it from interfering with the normal function of the heart.
